You’re on your way there, Bruce. Look for the “power behind the throne.” That’s the source of our current troubles. If you follow the money, it all leads to one place. NWO anyone?

Saw Bruce and the E-street Band in Charlotte back in ’08 for the “Magic”" tour. The first concert I”d ever been to, and it BLEW MY MIND. That was before I was even a fan of the Boss’s music, and at the time, I didn’t know some of the songs he played, such as “Kitty’s Back” or “Wild Billy’s Circus Story.” Now, however, he is my favorite artist, and I just bought tix to go see him at his first show of the tour, in Atlanta! Gonna be a helluva show…just wish the Big Man was still with us.

@beoz59 That’s the point of the song – that the country ISN”T taking care of people, so we’re forced to take care of each other. The narrator feels he and his peers have been abandoned by his country and they can only turn to each other. I also suspect there’s a certain ironic intent… to emphasize that “we” (the country) SHOULD take care of our own and that we have often failed on that front.

The fact that I type “bru” in the search bar and Bruno Mars is before Bruce Springsteen disappoints me.

Look bkhistoryguy, we don’t take great care of our veterans, especially the disabled ones, who more than anyone, deserves it. Except for the period after WWII, we have pretty much failed them repeatedly. If you doubt this, just Google VA and treatment of closed head injuries, for the latest horror stories. We also don’t take great care of our kids. We have the worst education and the highest mortality rate in the industrialized West.

I love Bruce but this song is old and tired…are country is in the toilet and we do not take care of our own especially our vets
Bruce should start writing songs about being rich and famous because thats what he’s been for a few decades, enough with the blue collar songs americana crap!

Bruce is like the boy who cried wolf, how many times can you listen to someone who tells you that the most giving people on the face of the planet (America) have not done enough to help his flavor of the month down trodden and abused. Bruce, you’ve gone to the well a few too many times for my money. when your audience (white, middle class, hard working folk, like you used to be) is spanked one too many times by your lyrics) it may be time to change your tune, and write a song thanking the fan

who busts his butt so you can preach to us and tell us, “just give and care JUST a little more! hopefully, by the time you come back from your European vacation this summer, this music will be put to bed. Your audience has grown up, join us will you?

@libsarecommies Correction: campaigned. This song is his new take. No matter who is in power and no matter what is promised, they will let you down. It’s an apolitical song. Telling Dems and GOP to get off their asses and fulfill some of their promises. You might be one of those sucked in by the two party system and brainwashed by the one your daddy chose. You don’t dig very deep – just toe the party line. You’re inside the political circus and have swallowed the process hook line and sinker.
