the reason why people call metallica sellouts (the black album or right after) is bc they lost their thrash roots. this doesnt just mean that they slowed down their songs, it also means they dumbed down their songs. before every song had a complicated and sophisticated song structure they started in with shorter songs that were more commercially appealing. in their first 5 albums they played with structure, even basing songs on 5 measures instead of 4. load and beyond dropped this intellect
